Enjoy the peaceful surroundings of our Country Cottage Bed & Breakfast located three miles from c. 1786 Marshfield Village and just one mile from the entrance to Groton State Forest. Our home is nestled in a maple sugar bush that is active each spring. Special views of adjacent mountains and Peacham Pond add to the peaceful tranquility. Our home reflects our many years of hosting guests at the Creamery Inn in nearby Cabot.
The surrounding state forest includes Osmore Pond, Kettle Pond, Groton Pond and Rickers Pond, accompanying hiking trails and the old Montpelier to Wells River Railroad bed. These provide delightful land opportunities for hikers, cyclists, snowmobilers, and cross country skiers and the surrounding ponds provide for fishing and various water sports. Visitors to the area find an abundance of wildlife including deer, bear, moose and wild turkeys. Nearby Marshfield Pond on the railroad bed is a special place for bird watchers.
Visiting us during foliage season offers a vision many come to Vermont to see but all seasons are welcome seasons at Country Cottage. We have two guest rooms, each with private bath and a view towards Peacham Pond. Memorable home-cooked breakfasts are served each morning with candlelight dinners available by advance reservation. Seasonal rates prevail. $85-$95.
How To Find Us
From Montpelier: Travel Route 2 East through East Montpelier and Plainfield to Marshfield (about 18 miles) After leaving Marshfield village (still on Route 2), travel 1 mile up the hill, turn right onto Route 232 South and proceed another 3.3 miles. Country Cottage is located on the right, about three tenths of a mile past the turnoff to Peacham Pond, and the first drive after the "Shoulder Narrows" sign.
From St Johnsbury: Travel US Route 2 west towards Marshfield (about 20 miles). About 1 mile before Marshfield Village turn left onto Route 232 South. This turn is directly across RT 2 from Water Tower Farm (nice horses!). Proceed another 3.3 miles. Country Cottage is located on the right, about three tenths of a mile past the turnoff to Peacham Pond, and the first drive after the "Shoulder Narrows" sign.
From Interstate 91 north or south take Exit 17, Wells River, exiting onto RT 302 West. Continue on 11 miles through the villages of Ryegate and Groton to the intersection of RT 302 and RT 232 North. This is a right hand turn. Continue about ten miles. About nine miles in there is a sharp turn with a white summer house on the right. This is the entrance to New Discovery State Park. Continue on for 9/10's mile. The drive will be on your left. If you pass it, there is a 40 mph curve sign, followed by the right turn to Peacham Pond.
